You'll need snap-ring pliers or a little screwdriver to get the snap rings off (I always forget that step, doh!)
I think a 3/8" or 1/2" wrench to get the driveshaft seperated from the tranny and rear end, and you'll need a hammer and socket or a press or something to push the end caps out of the yokes.

I personally would have the vehicle pushed to a parking lot to work on it, instead of the middle of the street. If you've got a 4x4 you can disconnect the driveshaft fairly quickly with the wrench and then put it in 4wd and drive it in fwd for a while, kinda weird feeling.

You should check your warranty papers. If you have a 10/100,000 warranty it's not a manufacture warranty. The factory 7/70 didn't start until mid 02. If your truck was originally sold early in 02 that probably explains the aftermarket warranty.

Most extended warranties have a deductible (factory and aftermarket). One good thing about an aftermarket warranty is that you usually get money back from the company that sold the warranty if you sell the truck before the warranty expires.

I bought mine through a Dodge dealership in Oklahoma City. My salesman used to write the service manuals for the new rams....he gave me alot of pointers....one was to change out the front UV joints at 60K miles.....regardless......he said they have seen quite a few lately, and that they end up costing bigger bucks if they break on you. I figured it wasn't a ploy, since he knew I was coming from 100 miles away, and wouldn't be bringing the truck in to them for servicing.
He also was nice enough to tell me that I could switch over the 7/70K warranty from the original owner for $50. He gave me the number, and told me not to buy the stuff the finance office would be pushing. He asked me not to bring it up at the dealership...that he would get fired for encouraging me not to buy the extra warranty, and for handing out the info about the 7/70K warranty....which I know was bs on that part. But I had a good experience with them....

I recently bought my truck and emailed DC about the 7/70 warrenty. They said it was no cost to transfer it. I initially called them and again they said it was no cost but said that I had to bring it to the dealer to have it transfered. I didn't believe that so I emailed them and this is the reply. BTW, I emailed it from a form off of the dodge.com website.

Thank you for your recent email to DaimlerChrysler Motors Corporation
regarding transferring the seven year or 70,000 mile limited powertrain
warranty into your name.

The above mentioned warranty automatically transfers with the vehicle to
you. I have updated our files to reflect that you are the new owner of
the vehicle.

Thank you again for your email.

It depends on the year of the vehicle. The 04 do have a $150 transfer fee for the factory 7/70. I don't think the late model 02 or 03s have a transfer fee. Not sure about the 05s. It's clearly written in the warranty booklet that's available on dodges website.

Just had my pinion seal replaced by the dealer.
1/2 hour labour and a $12 seal with $8.50 sundries.
Thats about $85.00 tops in my book.
It's free under the warranty he said.
Then the bill for the $108.00 deductable came in.
You woudn't beleive the **** I stired up when i told them I don't want a warranty repair, I'll pay the 85.0 instead.
Saved $15.00. but imagine if it had only been a minor repair item.

We have the $100 deductable too. It's much cheaper than paying for the whole job, no?
