$100 Deductible for Powertrain Warranty?
The dealer service department is charging me $100 for a deductible. The universal joint from my 2002 Ram broke off and is covered under the 10/100,000 mile powertrain warranty.
Have you guys been charged this amount before?

Are you talking about the rear driveshaft u-joint? If so, you could have changed it yourself for less that $50. I can't imagine that the dealership bill would be over $110 for this.
Yeah, it was the rear U-Joint. They are charging me 100 for a deductible. i'm under the 10 yr/100,000 mile warranty. I've been told that it was cheap to fix, but come on. I thought people would pay a deductible for insurance......not a warranty.
What do you guys know/think about this?

The deductable is one thing that they typically gloss over when purchasing things like extended warranties. Anyway, I never get the extended warranties for that very reason. Since I do all the work on my vehicles myself, my warranties are typically void anyway (at least with the cheap dealerships I've been to).

The deductible has always been there. When my head broke on my 87 turbo Shadow back in 89, it cost me $100.

I got a $50 deductible on my extended warranty.
On my Ram the dealer wanted some obscene amount to change out the rear u-joints, plus I would have had to leave the truck with them for a day so they could "special order" them in. WTF? I told them to put it back together and I'd fix it myself. The problem was that the grease had vanished and one of the crossbars was chewed 1/2 down. I ended up paying $5 for the oil change (local promotion). I went to the parts store and bought a new u-joint for ~$20 and put it in in their parking lot.
Moral of the story - do your own inexpensive item stuff, it's much cheaper.

The U-Joint broke down on me in the middle of the road. It might be inexpensive, but try fixing it on a busy Friday afternoon at 5:30pm in the middle of an intersection.
If it's inexpensive, what tools do i need to do it myself?

I'd cange it myself. Just basic handtools are necessary. Get one with a greasable zerk fitting.
The 100 deductable has always been there. There is also a $150 to transfer the warranty to a 2nd owner.
