Default where is the fuel filter located

My truck just died on me going down the interstate today. pulled over and it cranked up. Took off wide open and around 50 it started sputtering. If you keep the gas at a constant it runs alright but as soon as you let off or give it more gas it jerks and sputters. The engine light is on and another on the right of the cluster which looks like a bolt of lightning. I thought It might be the fuel filter. I have 14000 miles on it. I looked under the truck but I don't see the filter I see a black box about 8inches by 12 inches. Am I missing something

Same thing happened to my Ford. Go ahead and find and replace the fuel filter. If that is not the problem, you may want to check the fuel pump. Best best, however, is to see what codes show up. Auto Zone will check it for free using a simpler computer. A shop will charge you somewhere around $25 - $60 to hook up the computer (dealer included).

Well, the fuel filter is inside the fuel tank. So before you go tearing things apart, let the dealer take a look, especially if you are still under warranty.

Yeah. The chances of clogging that filter are slim, unless someone dumped a huge bunch of sand or something in the tank.

If its bad defently get it checked out it can really rob you of horsepower. I changed mine on my camaro and it was so bad i couldn't even put my lips on one end and blow hard enough to get the dirt all out. It would plugged beyond belief.
