Default miles per tank follow up

I couldn't find the post with the miles per tank stats that everybody was posting to a while back, so I thought that I would start a new one. Based on the overhead digital console I got 225 miles with just under a full tank of gas(roughly 24-25 gal). The digital readout tells me that I am getting about 12 mpg, but when you do the math it equates to about 9.4 mpg. I should also mention that there are no highway miles in these figures, just city streets. The only mods that I have that might affect the miles per gal/tank is the K&N filter and a flowmaster muffler. The truck is lifted but it still has the stock wheel and tire combo so that shouldn't affect the numbers too much. So my question is, what the hell am I doing wrong? I remember reading several people reporting over 400 mpt and a few getting over 500 mpt. How is this possible? I reset the meter and I am trying the test again; I would be happy with 300 mpt, but I'm not expecting that.

Those reporting 400 - 500 could have had the larger tank. I think there is a 34 gal option.

Can't help with your mpg. 9.4 sounds really low, but I've never run a whole tank in city street driving.

Yup the 400-500 per tank is probably with the 34 gal. tank. Even with the 34 gal. tank in mine I haven't broken 400 miles yet.

527 miles last month.

I started that other thread because, to me, although MPG is somewhat important, how far I can go on a tank is more important. I switched from the 26 gallon to the 34 gallon when some "damaged" my tank searching for easy fuel.

On that tank I calculated 16.4 MPG and replaced 32 gallons of fuel.

2003 Hemi SLT Quad with both tow and 4x4 package (3.92 dif), home made CAI, Flowmaster exhaust and 75% highway driving and easy on the pedal.

I averaged 17.4 mpg on my last road trip from northern Virginia to Michigan (~600 miles) going ~75mph the whole way. I have a 5.7L Hemi in a 2004 QC 4x4. I was very impressed.

Later,

Best I have done in my Hemi is around 430 mpt (26 gallon tank). Not bad considering I am running wrangler MTR's like on the Rubicons (P305/70/17). Just had to learn to keep my foot out of it and obey the speed limit. I have noticed about a 75-100 mile per tank difference between running 60-62 mph and running 68-72mph. But in town I am lucky to get 9mpg, just too much fun leaving it in first gear and hearing the flowmaster roar as the front end about hops off the ground. Just for the record I went to the dealership today with every intention of ordering a new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (the stretched one) for the soul purpose of saving money on fuel in all my travels for work. Yep, decided against that when I saw the Wranglers, even with a 6-speed manual dont get much better gas mileage than my HEMI, so I scratched that idea and proudly went and put $75 worth of 94 octane go-go juice in the best damn truck on the road!! (and rubbed the dash and told my HEMI just how proud I was to have it- and you all know you have done the same thing!!!)

Keep the shiney side up everyone!!

I just filled up yesterday and was playing with the display shortly after, and even with getting on the gas hard having a load in the bed and just plain not trying to conserve gas, my display read 463 MTE and 11.5 AVG MPG, but I also have the Larger tank...
