Axles and Tone Rings?
Hi all, after searching and searching, I am really interested in putting a set of axles under my Jeep JK from a 2000-2008 dually (using H1 beadlock wheels) and I'm hoping you all can help me sort some things out.
My questions center around the tone rings and plugs.
1: When did Dodge start utilizing tone rings? Obviously, the earlier axles are going to be cheaper, provided they are balljoint. I have a couple kingpin Dana 60s and those are the exception, but no electronics. (1 Dodge and 1 Chevy)
2: Are there 2 tone rings per axle, one at each wheel?
3: Anyone know if the JK and dually tone ring electronic plugs will interchange? (Dana, AAM, I don't care, but prefer AAM unless I can get a good deal on the Dana)
4: Are the front axle tone rings the same size as the rear axle tone rings on these 1 ton Dodge duallies?
5: Do you have any more info, like axles to stay away from, etc.?
I really appreciate your help here.
Thanks,
Tim Good.

I think the tone rings are bolted between the ring gear and carrier so just one per axle. Usually the rear one.
Not really sure about your other questions, but I would think that different sized axles would have different diameter tone rings with different amount of teeth.

On a solid axle, they are in the center and bolted to the ring gear on the rear. On the front, they are usually on the hubs when you have an IFS. Dodge, Ford, etc. all have the ring in the rear differential for the abs. Dodge uses it for the speedo as well.
