Default Battery voltage/current issue ** Fixed**

More than once on these forums the issue of tight tolerances on battery voltages has been mentioned.... Believe me, I have searched.

Yesterday, I replaced the alternator on my '02 1500 w/ a 5.9.
The alternator failed at the parts store and now the truck will start with a prolonged jump but will not idle on it's own, it needs a stick between the seat and gas pedal.

All I have is a voltmeter so here's what it looks like.

Running @ 1500 RPM 13.9- 14.4 volts

Off 12.4

*** Went out and bought a new battery. While there, tested the old one. CA was only at 74%.

New battery
Running @ 1000 RPM 13.85 steady
Off 12.5

New battery works fine - lasts long time ( I hope)
Mike

Rule of thumb, Never use the alternator to try to charge a dead battery. It caused crazy PCM issues and can fry a new alternator.
Glad you got yours fixed.
