I have a slight oil leak that I think is originating somewhere in the front block. Most likely source seems to be harmonic balancer oil seal. I've never seen a leak from here before and am hoping someone can help. First picture is taken from the front looking at the harmonic balancer and you can see the oil on the block. Next Picture is taken while laying on ground looking up at the point where the drips actually occur. I think the oil is just running back to this point but wanted to show it anyway in case it helps. Any info or opinion is appreciated.

 

No big deal, unless it is staining a nice looking driveway. My front main started leaking last year. I just check the oil more often. My leak is bigger than yours, but still only 1/2 Qt in 4,000 miles. Every Dodge I have owned or still own leaks oil out the front or rear main seals or valve covers. You should see my uncles 94 Cummins, you know exactly where it was parked all the time.

 

Looks like the balancer/timing cover is leaking and it also looks like the rear main seal may be leaking.

 

Clean it all up and check it after your next drive to see if you can pinpoint the source. If it is the front seal on a 4.7 or 3.7 it's pretty simple to replace it.

 

front seal and rear main also may be the timing cover didnt seal correctly from the factory. the front is a farely easy fix. the rear main you better off waiting until you need to go some major tranny work and check the oil. BTW for you guys that pound on there truck the crank case builds pressure whick is what causes valve covers to leak oil so when you kids take you new truck you can actually tell if there pounding on it. just as an FYI

 

That could be, but I think that my 80's dodges valvecovers leak because they are old, dried out, and have never been replaced. I pound my 4.7 almost every day, and no leaking from the V/C, just front seal.

 

Front seals also take special Miller tools to press the seal in place also. You can get them on ebay though
