Default ring and pinion gear help..

hey everyone.. first off would just like to say hi as this is my first post on the site. i recently picked up a 05 hemi 4x4 and i must say it is an awesome truck. well my problem i ran into is im in need of a new ring and pinion gear set and im a little loss at where to start. ive read all the gear threads in the FAQ but didnt find to much help.. ive got the stock 3.92's in there right now and was planning on keeping it that way unless there is a better setup. i dont do much off roading mostly city and highway driving and pulling a few trailers here and there..

the other question i have is which brand to go with? looking for one that wont whine at all? so i was thinking motive or yukon unless there are some better options.

thanks for the help in advance!!

Yukon or Motive is fine. It mostly comes down to install anyway.
Why are you in "need" for new gears. Issues with your oem gears?

yeah the person that had the truck before me must have run the rear end low on gear oil because the teeth are rounding off causing it to whine/howl whenever force is applied to the rear end thru acceleration or braking.

Or if the truck has the stock LSD, the clip(s) broke and are rounding off the teeth of the gears (do a search for "C-Clips").

With stock size tires up to 33" I'd go 4.10s, with anything above 33" tires I'd go straight to 4.56s.

As Kay9 states, the install is WAY more important than the brand. Shimming a ring & pinion in an AAM axle is a b*tch!!!

You'll need an install kit, preferably one with Timken bearings. If you have the stock LSD, I'd seriously think about replacing it when they have the carrier open. It's a time bomb that likely will take out the new ring & pinion at some point...

sorry to hijack - but what does the build sheet say when you have a std. diff or if you have the OEM LSD?

Hell 'Weed, if I had me a 4x2 like you do, I'da went up to 4.88s with them big honkin' wheels you got. Shame nobody's got 4.88s for the 8" front AAM...

Anti spin is dodge speak for lsd, I'd go w/ 3.92's so you won't have to do the front diff. too since you're a 4x4.

alright thanks for the help.. guess i will look into a new lsd then. little more money than i wanted to spend but if its worth id rather only pay once for new gears. i was reading on another forum that some guys run there trucks with out the clips in there? is it true that it wont affect anything?
