Default 2008 Ram 1500 4.7 ticking

Hello all, I am kinda new to the Dodge world but I have a question. I have a 08 Ram 1500 4.7 4WD that has a ticking (diesling noise) in the engine. The truck has 40,000 (I bought it used with 38000 miles). I didn't notice the noise until I changed the oil. I changed the oil with the recomended 5w20 non synth and replaced the oil filter with a K/N. What could be causing the issue? Do I need to go with a heaver oil (say 5w30 or heaver) or different filter or am I just screwed?

Welcome to the forum

5w20 is fine. I would not go any thicker. I don't think the K&N oil filter would make it tick either.
Can you tell where the noise is coming from? Might check all of the exhaust manifold bolts. Sometimes an exhaust leak can sound like a ticking engine.
Did you get any kind of warranty when you got the truck?

Thanks for the reply. I can't really tell where the noise is comming from. It kinda sounds like valve chatter but not that loud. I thought about detetination but I have used different grades of gas and it does it with all.

Extended warranty

Does it go away after a couple mins or after the motor warms? The 4.7 is known for having lifter slap.

After driving it awile I have better knowledge of what it is doing. It goes away after the engine is warm and you use 89 oct. You have to run about a half tank of 89 before it will quit. It is not serious but just don't want to have to repair down the road. Is there anything I can do to the valves.

If you do a search on here you can find a lot of people have tried, not sure if anyone got it to stop. Mine started around 70k miles and I have 131k now and have just done normal maintenance. I take it slow till it goes away which is only a minute or so in the summer, little longer in the winter and if I am going to tow I let it warm up a little before leaving, but thats just me.
