2005 1500 QC 4x4 Lower Ball Joints are these replaceable?
So I went to autozone got some lower ball joints, not because mine are bad, just the grease covers were split. After reading through the book it says some are not replaceable w/o replacing the whole lower A-Arm. Has anyone run into this problem? Here's a picture let me know what ya'll think. 2005 1500 QC 4x4
Has anyone done these on an 05? cause even with the big c clamp from auto zone I can't get it out, the top looks like it has a cap that is pinched on in three 3 place. Also is it possible to just order the rubber boot?
Two methods usually secure the lower BJ into the control arm that I'm aware of.
1) There is a snap ring fitted into a groove running around the top of the BJ. This clips into place and must be removed before pressing out the BJ.
2) Sometimes the top of the BJ has 3 or 4 crimps/tabs twisted into the top. These must be straightend by using a chisel to beat them strait to allow the BJ to be pressed out.
Here's a link to a "how to".

Hope this helps?

So the chisel method isn't working, and maybe it's just I can't see it in my imagination are the control arm slots for the ball joint flush on the top and bottom? Cause as of right now I have 3 holes drilled in the top and part of the lip ground down. I just don't want to grind too much. OR can I just ground the crimped lip down flush with the control arm?

Ok just an update I pulled the lower control arm and took it too sears, with the big c clamp, and a impact gun and about 30 minutes they finally popped it. Just so you all know it's $135 for them to do one side, Dodge country in killeen wanted $445 a piece.

Did you inspect the balljoint when they removed it??
Was it a snap ring or the "tabbed" balljoint the you have to use a chisel on it?
PS....$135 to just press it out, or did they put the new one in as well, or anything else?

They're just pressed out, using the c clamp and an impact gun. it is $135 if you drive your vehicle there and say fix this. So not too bad for the labor of taking some of that stuff off.
