Im glad to see you have everything fixed up. When faced with putting out that much money for a head/ head gasket job, I would likely put out a few hundred more as you did and just get a new long block. What establishment did you use?
No way, Old used ones start at $12,000.00. You can do a swap with less than 3500.
I was just at an engine remanufacturing facility ... the long block alone is $2500 plus $800 install and a $300 core deposit (no core to swap) .. plus PCM $500 and an entire wiring harness $750 for the whole thing. Add all the bolt ons .. like water pump, timing cover, oil pan, throtle body, fuel rails, sensors, injectors, cold air intake, exhaust manifolds ... Not to mention the engine mounts so it can match up to the tranny.
There is only a couple examples here on the forums of anyone who has actually done it. They have taken months to complete.
Sure, I could buy a truck with a hemi in it and swap it into my truck .. I would have all the parts but at what cost?
Pick and pull salvage yard "Complete motor" wiring harness , computers , and throttle box, $2,500.00-to-$3,500.00,.Follow the threads we've posted and do what we did, and installation won't cost hardly anything. More hp better gas mileage, and a 100%- better motor..
