Default 4.7 to 5.7 , manual tranny compatibility

Hi guys , i have an 04 short box 4.7 manual tranny ram , it has a cold tick but still runs good.... been thinking about swaping for a 5.7L but unsure of compatibility . Does anyone know what year if any of the 5.7L engines would bolt up to my manual tranny ? would i need to change mounts and computer or any wiring ?

thanks

I think it would bolt up, but most will tell you that it can't handle the hemi. I know of some Jeep guys that have been running manual hemis without problems, but they are using GETRAG 238s, which you can find in 05-08 (I think) 4.7 Rams. I've heard that you would need to change your clutch and cylinders to the ones that the 2500 Hemis use.

Once you get past that point, you have a little wiring to figure out with the transmission. I think 2005s and above go into limp mode with the absence of the auto trans. You'll need a Hemi PCM and you can have someone remove the auto trans from it.

As for the rest of the swap, yeah a ton of stuff. Engine mounts, wiring, computer, bunch of hoses, etc. There are a few threads on here about 5.7 swaps, mine is here: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen...003-5-7-a.html There are also a few threads on manual trans with hemi, but no final outcomes that I've seen.

A 2003 Motor and ECM should work. They came with seperate Transmission computers. OR When you get a Motor Pull it from a stick shift truck and get the computer with it..T- is right -The 4.7 and Hemi Trans have the same bolt pattern. When the 4.7 expires. Swapping it over to a Hemi is probably going to be cheaper than getting another used 4.7..I'm with T- I think you'll be fine using the Trans you have..
