Default 06 Ram with Hemi Exhaust Leak

I have an 06 Ram Hemi with MDS. Frequently when I start the engine and give it slight throttle I get what sounds to me like an exhaust leak. If I let the engine idle for just a minute or two, it disappears. It sound as if something is stuck open and it suddenly snaps shut. It sounds as if it is coming from the passenger side of the truck, although I cant determine where. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the site. It is common for the exh manifold bolts is come loose or break causing a leak. Check there first.

Thanks for the response and the welcome. I thought of the exhaust manifold bolts but the noise stops almost instantly so I thought it might be something else. I would think if the expansion of the parts as it heated up would cause the noise to go away slowly?

Default Exhaust Leak Fixed

You're absolutely right, the back two bolts were broken. Replaced them and the gasket, good as new. Thanks for the help!

Glad to help. Back bolts are the most common for some reason.

Default Hemi Exhaust Leak...

Took my truck into the local dealer I purchased it from to get the exhaust leak looked at. And behold it was the exhaust manifold studs that everyone talks about on this forum. I forget how many were broken, but they had to be drilled out. Since they did the repair I noticed a burning oil smell. I thought it might be a valve cover leaking, but when I looked cloeser at where the oil was coming from it looked like it was coming out of one of the exhaust studs. So I took it back to the dealer and they called me the next day and said I was going to need a new head. Thankful I have the CPO warrenty with the truck, so any repair just cost me the $150 deductible. Now to me it sounds like the mechanic that drillied out the studs went a little to far into the head.. When my truck is finished im going to despuit the deductible they want to charge me.. So guys watch out when you take your truck into the dealer to get the studs fixed!!!!
