Default Door Lock failed.

Hey, hoping one of you can help. One of my back doors will not lock/unlock with the power locks. Manually locking/unlocking still works.

I'm thinking the power mechanisim has failed. Any suggestions on who can fix something like this, and how many hrs it might cost to have the stealer look at it between coffees?

Thanks!

I had a similar issue with my 07 Mega cab. Both rear speakers, and 1 rear door lock.
I took it in for the door lock, they wanted $100 just to diagnose. $200 to do a splice repair on the harness, and about $700 to replace the harness. (1 door only)

I later went to diagnose the problem myself... it was the wires in the rubber boot that goes from the door pillar to the door (by the hinges). Its part of the complete door harness. The wires are poor quality and thin gauge. Every time the door opens and closes those wires flex, and eventually they break. I saw evidence on all my wires in that section, except the power windows which were a larger gauge wire.

I performed the solder and splice together myself, took about an hour or so per door and its all working good for now. I took the inside door panel off, and then carefully pried out the rubber boot from the pillar and door. At the pillar, there is a plug and you can unplug the wires. I also took out the speaker, and reaching through the speaker hole brought out the wires to where I could work on them. There isn't a lot of slack but enough I could solder it together and put heat shrink tube on it to try and protect it.

Guess it was part of Daimler's cheat the Chrysler/Dodge group for money before bailing scheme. That wire is 4 years old, and is more brittle than wire in a truck I had that was 20 yrs old.

Hope that helps, and good luck.

Agreed. it is common to find broken wires in the rubber boot from the door to the body. I had a similar issue but mine was the actually latch assembly itself that was bad and had to be replaced.

Thank you very much for the advice/direction/suggestions!

I pulled the boot back on the door and sure as shat, I found a broken wire.. and 3 others that were very close to failing.

I soldered the failed one, and taped it, and just taped the damaged ones for good measure.

See pics... We'll see how long this lasts.

I had the same problem. The back drivers door wouldn't unlock with the power locks and the dome light wouldn't come on when the door was open so I took the boot off and sure enough 3 wires were broke. I soldered them back together and it works perfect now. Pretty crappy design.

I have the same problem now as well with my 07 quad. The driver door lock will not activate with the fob. I can lock/unlock the door manually. This problem satarted out intermittently, sometimes working, sometimes not, etc. Hoping it is just a severed wire in the door boot. I recently fixed my wife's Grand Caravan power door for a similar problem. One of the wires in the door harness was severed, another hanging by a few strands. A solder gun, shrink tubing, and patience can save you several hundred dollars with these open circuits.
