I'm looking at getting a used 5.7 hemi from an 06 ram but its already removed ... is there a way i can find out exactly what year the motor is by a number somewhere on the engine? also if i bring the computer home is there a way i can read it ti see info like mileage ect ? i just want to make sure he's selling me what he tells me because this truck is all disasembled , cab off , ect . and i have no way to know the true mileage or even if the motor is fro the newer truck or his older one .

 

You can download the service manual from the link in my signature and see if there is anything on decoding any numbers on the block or heads. No way to check the actual mileage as that is stored in the instrument cluster.

 

Do a car fax on his vin, it should show the miliage at the time of the last plate renewal.

 

How do i do a car fax on a VIN ? ...Nevermind i googled it ... the site i was on wants 35.00 for the carfax report ... looked to me like they mail it to you. Is their a way to get instant results by email ?
