4.7 gas mileage poll.
I averaged around 14 with the 4.7 in my QC 4x4 Dakota and now average just over 15 with my 5.7 under the same driving conditions. The best I ever got with the 4.7 was 17 on the highway. I've beat that on several trips with the 5.7.
I love my 4.7, but wish the gas mileage would become consistant. On back roads, up and down the hills of maine, with the tow haul on I got a surprisingly 22mpg. City i get about 13 and on the highway doing 70 with the cruise on it varies.. Sometime I will get 19 and other times I will be as low as 14.. I have less than 2000 miles on the truck, could this be part of the problem?? Maybe the truck is still breaking in.. Oh yea 4.7 reg cab 4x4 20 inch wheels and 3.92 gears
Thanks for the help

I have a 4.7 manual 5 speed. My driving is pretty much down the middle with city and highway. Driving normal conditions I get 15.5mpg. When I baby it and dont do any hard take offs Ive gotten 17.6 mpg....but I guess thats bc i drive the manual and can control my rpms.[sm=confused06.gif]

those of you that bought the 4.7 instead of the hemi to save on gas.....your thinking process was wrong...esp if you drive around the city.
the ram weigh between 4700 and 5500 pounds depending on your application.....getting it moving takes a lot of grunt.
the 4.7 has to work harder than the 5.7 on starts and at highway speeds.
Im not sure what the 4.7 rpm is at at 70mph but in my hemi...i turn over just under 2000rpms at 70mph. the engine is barely working. same thing with starting out from 0 mph...there is more grunt in the hemi engine to get moving then there is in the 4.7. truck weighs too much to be powered by 230-240hp and only 300lb tq.
if you baby the throttle over time....the 4.7 may see 1-2 mpg better TOPS than a hemi....but under normal conditions....you wouldve been better off spending the extra 1 grand on a much nicer motor.

Is that a hemi badge on your 4.7?
