4.7 gas mileage poll.
Since I started this poll, thought I would update. Truck has just a little over 1000 miles now and gas mileage is slowly improving. Getting around 15 now stop and go and last saturday when i did a short trip that was about 70% hwy and 30% stop and go, I got about 17. Hope this trend continues. Still loving the truck.
i have a 03 rc 4.7 on 20" factory wheels and tires with 42000 miles. it ranges from 14-16 in the city and 17-21 on the hwy it just depends on how i drive it. also i think i made a good choice since price was much less than the hemi. and with elelbrock exhaust and k&n intake it think it has plenty of power and tows great. as a matter of fact it will pull a qc hemi stop light to stop light around here.

those of you that bought the 4.7 instead of the hemi to save on gas.....your thinking process was wrong...esp if you drive around the city.
Im not sure what the 4.7 rpm is at at 70mph but in my hemi...i turn over just under 2000rpms at 70mph. the engine is barely working. same thing with starting out from 0 mph...there is more grunt in the hemi engine to get moving then there is in the 4.7. truck weighs too much to be powered by 230-240hp and only 300lb tq.

One of the big problems in gas mileage is quality control at the refinery. If that pump says 87 octane, is it really 87 octane. could be .Most states allow a 4/10's of an octane differance off of that 87 number. They don't care if it's over the number but it can't go to far below that number. A lot of states don't even have a State Octane lab to check on it. Some have independant labs and some don't have anything. So If you buy your fuel in a none testing state what happens then. Low mileage. A lot of gasoline leaves the refinery at 87 octane but by the time you get it it could be 86 6. One of the hartest testing area's is Baltimore Md. The state of Maryland has there own lab for octane testing and they do it right. If a barge comes to the terminal It is tested for octane first. if it is below 86.7 they send it back to where ever it came from. so most of the fuel thay get is on the Money. So is it in NY state. PA., Ohio. If you buy your fuel at the same station each time and drive the same way each day and your mileage goes up and down what do you think is causing the mileage problem. Stating around Sept 15 th the mileage will start dropping. Why ,because the oil companies are changing over to the winter blends. They start adding more Butane and MTBE and synthetic Alcohol.
