Default Rear driver side water leak....

Hey all, this is prob the 10,000 post on this subject but here it goes....
I have a 2008 Ram 1500 w/ hemi Big Horn edition.Shortly after buying it as a certified pre-owned i started getting water in the back seat in the small storage comparments onder the folding seats.Sorry,it is a 4 door crew cab w/ auto sliding rear window.I have been to the dealer 3 times for the leak specialist they call and he told them after the 3rd time it needed to be replaced, which they did.No problems after that with 2 rainstorms and a drive through carwash.Hurricane Irene just deposited 5 inches of water in the drivers side compartment again. Here is where i start to get to the point,i will attach pics as well.I went to a friends house this am and parked the truck on a flooded st for 20 mins while I fixed a subpump. The water was about 1/4 inch beliow the tailpipe but i was raising some serious waves driving that street.Below the seats and carpet are 2 poorly secured holes with plastic plugs. Can this possibly have flooded those comparments or was it the window again?Sorry again about the long description.

a lot of guys have leaks like yours that are contributed to the poor seal on the 3rd brake light

I have the same truck and mine does the same thing.I bought it brand new in 2008 and I've had it into the dealer over 10 times over the last three years (three times within the first year alone).I only now have 14000 miles on it and my factory warranty ran out on july 4th of this year.Ive had the 3rd brake light replaced and sealed, which seamed to stop the leak coming from the top center of my rear window, but NOT THE ONE COMING FROM THE WINDOW ITSELF! The channel where the sliding window slides in fills with water and overflows into the underseat bins. I've had the origanal window removed, resealed, and replaced with no luck 2'xs.I've had the entire rear window replaced 2'xs.The second time, I went to the dealership to examine the window before they reinstalled it and they showed me the drains that are on either side of the window track and they said that my old window drains were clogged (BUll****!) and that I wouldn't have the problem anymore.WRONG AGAIN JACKASSES! I live in PA and we just got the all day rain from the tropical storm coming from the gulf area, and again the driver side bin was partly filled with standing water.I plan on bringing it back once again to the dealership and telling them that I'm going to a lawyer and pressing for the lemon law because its obviously a defect in the window design and that its causing my truck to have a funky smell (mildew?) thats going to cause a problem trying to sell it.Because of this bull****,its most likly going to be the last dodge truck I buy, which sucks because I really love the truck otherwise.

I agree with Weed. I took mine out, put a solid bead of clear windshield sealer around it and let it set up. It stays soft enough to compress when I reinstalled and hasn't leaked since.
I let it set up first, so when I go to change the bulb at some point, it will come apart without sticking to the truck.

Default thanks guys

thanks for the advice again all,the dealership fixed and i checked and water tested the brake light myself, but the leak was coming in form the sliding glass this time, right at the bottom, they keep saying its the drain tracks that are being pinched so my second set of free windows are on their way from the factory,i will see what happens then.

shircon- tell the dealership to remove/drill out and make wider ,if possible, the drains and leave them open.the drain is only about 1/8th inch wide and it zig-zags so its really a bad design.if you can ,go to the dealership to inspect the new window prior to them installing it,and have them point out the drains to you and you will see what i am talking about

I also have a 2008 big horn and had this problem from the time i bought the truck in 2008. They told me at the dealer it was the seal on the third brake light so they fixed it and it didn't change the problem. I told them i don't know how many times that it was the rear slider but the dealer knows better lmao. never fixed it. finally about a year ago i had a load of lumber on my truck and a 2X4 shattered my rear window. I replaced the window with a solid rear window instead of the slider and have not had a leak since.

I am at the point of having the rear window replaced with a solid one, they have it stripped down now and are still trying to stop the leaking as i type this. The dealership is trying in my opinion but this is beyond frustrating to say the least.Thank you again all for the input,i will fill you in as soon as I get it resolved.

Don't have the sliding rear window replaced! This is something you can fix yourself.

I did a write up on what you need to do to keep the inside of your truck dry. Very easy fix.
https://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen...w-3-steps.html

Truck has been outside through torrential downpour and a hurricane and has not leaked in past year. Fixt!

Also, you can get a tub of dessicant and keept it in the back seat to absorb any moisture in the air. Keeps the truck dry and clean smelling.

I have sealed up my 3rd brake light Before any problems occurred. I tinted my lights so it was done at that time.
I never had a problem with my rear slider because I don't ever use it. I wonder if using it wears out the seal. Well, not wear it out, but flatten it out so that the seal becomes loose and allows water in?
I never use the back window because it throws air at the back of my head(hate it!) and if there's any leaves in my bed, they go right to the dashboard regardless if the back windows are opened or not.
