Default 2002 dodge ram 1500 idling issue

hey, my 2002 dodge ram 1500 4 dr truck is having this issue ... when i bought it, it was fine, everything seemed great... about a week later everytime i start it, it doesn't idle consistently. the rpm fluctuates from .5 to 1.5 constantly. i've let it sit for up to 10 mins to see if it gets better after a while, but it doesn't. i try to hit the gas a lil to see if that makes any difference, and it doesn't. i'm not mechanically minded at all, so any advice would be helpful! maybe theres an easy trick someone knows ?

I will move you to the 3rd Gen Ram section (2002-2008 Rams).

Which engine do you have?

first thought is what Jasonw asked above. second thought i to pick up some carb cleaner spray and use it to try to detect any vacuum leak from any hose or nipple or throttle body seal as a vac leak would give idling issues.

im assuming you have done proper maintenance on it like plugs and wires and rotor/cap (5.9) ect.
