Default Transmission fluid/filter change

I have everything to do it but just wanted to clear something up. To get all the old fluid out, I was planning on pulling one of the hoses to pump out while truck is running then when it starts to sputter, was going to add a couple qrts of new fluid and let it pump some more to clear out the old stuff in the converter, then was going to drop the pan to change filters, then fill with new fluid till topped off. Does that sound right or should I pump it out till sputters, drop pan, change filters, then add new fluid while pumping out until clean fluid comes out then top off?

Thanks for the help, will be doing this after the holiday weekend.

Disregard, found the answer, going to pump it out till sputters, drop pan, change filters, then add new fluid and pump out until clean fluid comes out then top off.

you are not going to pump it out with it running are you? If the torque converter runs dry you could and probably will mess it up.

I was under the assumption pulling the hose and having it pump out while running only emties the pan to the bottom of the pick up. From doing a search, I was going to do it until it starts to sputter, turn off, add some new, start back up and contiune to add as it pumps until old fluid is out. Please let me know if that is not the way to do it.
