Default New to me 2003 Quad Cab 4x4 HEMI

Hey all,

Tomorrow I'm picking up me new (to me) 2003 Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 SLT w/ the HEMI. This isn't my first Dodge. I had a 98 Dakota (I loved that truck) which I traded in for a 97 Ford Expedition when my daughter was born. Well, she's big enough now to ride in the back seat of a Ram Quad Cab. What can I look forward to as far as gas mileage, problems, pro's, con's, etc. with this truck. I know I'm going to love it, but I also want to be aware of any sneaky problems thay may pop up on me.

Any info on personal experiences, tech spec's, etc would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I've had my 03 RCLB for a year now. I am the second owner, but bought it with only 4900mi on it. It was like new. It's great in the snow and rides pretty darn well, almost like a car. Had the bed full of sheetrock and couldn't even feel it. Just step on the gas and go! The only things that worry me are the infamous Hemi tick and this thunk I hear every now and then when I'm at idle. Otherwise, awesome truck.

I've had my '03 Ram regular cab short bed hemi for almost 2 years now. I bought it used w/4400 miles on it (the guy traded it for an SRT-4 for whatever reason) I've had a few problems w/it, the rotors warping, brake light switch, cat. coverter which was my fault I think when I beat on the muffler to install my duals I think I broke the weld on the converter, this is my 3rd Dodge truck and I've loved everyone of them. I still have my 97 Ram (my frist vehicle!), and traded my 99 Ram for my HEMI and have no regrets! Great truck! Gas mileage isn't great I get between 11 & 12 in the city...but it's been as high as about 17 on the interstate which is pretty good.

You'll enjoy this truck, when I compare my 99 Ram to my 03 Ram it's like night and day, this 03 is like a Cadillac compared to my 99, engine is smooter, rides so much nicer, not as much road noise, just an over all better truck!

When you get it post pictures and tell us how you like it! You can see mine in my avatar!

Hi all

I'm new to this forum and also a new Ram owner. I just wanted to post because I am picking up a new to me 2003 Quad Cab 4x4 HEMI also. I got a good deal on it.

RcBandit28, you've seen up to 17mpg with your truck? That's really good; I hope I can get close to that on the Highway. Unfortunately I'll be towing most of the time.

hey douggr and grt05, if you don't mind me asking, what did you give for your trucks? I am looking for the exact same truck and just want to know if what I am seeing is the same as what you got... Dealers around here are around 19K and up depending on miles and upgrades.

My truck is a 2003, 1500, QC, Short bed, SLT, 4wd, Hemi, 20in wheels, 26,000 miles, running boards, tonneau cover for $20,000. Now I should also tell you this was a private party seller not a dealer, which makes a big difference.

Good luck with your purchase.

I picked up mine for 21k from a dealer. 4x4, quad cab, hemi, slt, etc...
had 30000 miles on it in immaculate condition.
I love it.
