2005 Quad Cab, 4x4, 5.7 Hemi fuel tank leak / issue...Not sure what it is
I am new here. I looked around various posts and did not find what I was looking for. If I missed it, I am sorry.
I am trying to figure out my issue so any help would be greatly appreciated. In the past few days my garage is filled with gasoline fumes when I go to work in the morning. My truck takes a few more seconds to crank and start. I noticed last night, it looks like I have gas leaking from the top "area" of my tank. I have not dropped the tank yet. I wanted to find out possible causes or problems that I could be facing. Broken hose, bad seals, sending unit gone bad, etc.
I have provided as much detail as I have right now. I plan to take a closer look tonight when I return home from work.
Is it difficult to drop my tank? Anything to be cautious of? i.e. lines that break easy, harnesses, things like that, that I would not want to miss and cause me more grief.
Thanks for any help someone may be able to provide.

Your arent going to find out what it is until you drop the tank. However, you may find another option of removing the bed and leaving tank and all its fittings in place and seeing about the leak.
However, if you want to drop the tank, its obviously easier to do it with it as little fuel in it. Place a floor jack under it with a 2x4 and take off the two nuts on the straps that hold it up. Slowly let it down enough so you can get to the top and disconnect the fuel filler line and the other hoses. Some have locking clips you need to push or slide out of the way to release them.

I can't really see much other than there is fuel on the top of the tank around the sending unit area. I am thinking I may want to take the bed off and take look that way. Should only be 6-8 bolts, fuel fill neck and tailights are all that I need to remove to get the bed off correct? Am I missing something.
I am worried that I will drop the tank and while taking hoses off, spill more fuel that will hide where the leak is. I am hoping it just a gasket or something. I have noticed that I need to leave the key in the "on" position longer to get the truck to start and not crank as long. If I just jump in and crank, it takes much longer.
Thanks for the reply. Will be digging into it this weekend.
