Question A/C problem

I have an 02 Dodge Ram 1500. It has been drivin hard and has a good amount of wear and tear, but I have always takin good care of it and had regular maintenance. When I first got it so long ago it had the manufactures A/C problem which I got a new motor to fix. Now 6-7 years later im having major A/C problems.

The first problem I noticed was the A/C would stay on even if the truck was off. Easy fix just turn the A/C off when I got out.

Then the A/C would not turn on every now and then when I first got in the truck. After a few minutes of driving with the A/C **** turned to high and suddenly it would blow like crazy. Must note that while the A/C wasn't working at this point, even if the A/C **** was in the off position, the A/C dashboard light is on. If i had the **** in off position i would wait for the light to go off then i could turn the A/C on.

That problem turned into once the A/C would turn on it would run for a little, usually a random amount of time then just cut off. I would turn the switch off, wait for the A/C power light to turn off, usually a few minutes, then turn it back on.

Now when the A/C turns on it doesnt blow very hard at all. Then over the course of 5-10min it will dwindle down to bearly blowing and eventually cut off. There is also a sort of ticking sound behind the passenger side air bag. When it blows its hardest, which is not very hard, the ticking is fastest and slows down until the A/C eventually cuts off. The A/C doesnt always turn on, it doesnt always turn back on after it goes off, seems pretty random. The power light it always on.

Seems to me like its a short in the wires but i dont know. Im in the works of getting a new one, but if there is a quick fix or cheap fix i would probably take advantage of that. I really just want to know what it is too. Thanks for any help

sounds like the blower motor is getting worn out---it is located on the passenger side, down near the floor in the bottom of the hvac duct. It and resistors that control the motor soeed can be fairly easily removed to check out.

I'm not sure but its possible that Weed has an FSM for your truck for free download.
It might help you figure out what going on
