Default quick differential gasket question..

Im about to change my fluid in my rear diff. I bought some liquid gasket stuff and was wondering when to put it on. For example do I apply sealant to the diff cover and bolt it on right away OR do I put the sealant on and wait for it to get tacky and then bolt it on?

Dumb question, but I've never worked with this stuff before.

I'd say read the instructions, some of that stuff sets up in just a few minutes and you can fill the diff up right away, I've seen other stuff that has a much longer setup time and you'd need to wait after you install the cover before you add the gear oil, you wouldn't want your fresh gear oil to become contaminated with uncured gasket maker...

I have always used RTV, the black stuff. I put a light bead all the way around the cover. Not on differential itself, the cover. I smoosh it on, put my bolts in. Wahhlah I am done. Let it sit for 30 mins and you should be all set. Do not put an over the top amount on, a light bead always does the trick for me. Should be the same concept for the grey stuff.
