Default Waxing questions...

Hey Guys

I hope this hasn't been discussed before, and I apologize if it has, but what would you guys recommend I use to wax my truck? It is a Black Ram and I've heard black is difficult to shine up without swirls. Any product suggestions or techniques? I do have an electric buffer I use on my boat, but I'm a little scared to use it. Not sure if I will ruin the clear coat.

I also have a few scratches I'd like to work out of the clear coat, so any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Maguires is good stuff. I have a black ram as well, and it will clean it up nicely. I also have a soft water sytem that i can run a hose out of, so it doesn't leave any water spots. Make sure when you wax its in the shade though. And id be scared to use an electric buffer on my new truck as well. there's also stuff made so that after you wax it, you can polish it too. Makes it really stand out. Also a brass cleaner (brasso) can be used on all of your crome.

Use zanio brothers wax system it is the best. Owned 2 black vehicles and now an Atlantic blue ram. It is some work to get it preped and done the first time but if you keep up with it your Ram will shine like its off the showroom floor for years to come.

Go to this link, its from the "DIY" section of the forum. If you want a really killer looking Black truck, or any dark color for that matter, the guy that wrote this up is a pro, and he lets you into the secrets of getting it done right

Zaino is very good, but sometimes difficult to come by unless you buy it off the net. Lately I've been using Meguiar's NXT wax and other products with EXCELLENT results. I, too, have a black Ram and it hides almost 100% of the minor swirls. If I have big scratches that are just in the clear coat, I use Meguair's Scratch-X. Worked really well when My mom's Lexus had some road gators (tractor trailer retreads) kick up and hit the side of her car. Couldn't tell she had them even touch her car, which is black also. Good luck.
Also, with almost any wax, after it has been waxed, mist it down and polish it. It will really shine!!!

I found that Nano wax from Eagle One works pretty well. Easy to put on easy to take off.

I use Liquid Glass. After reading all the hype on Zaino I decided to buy their kit. I used the clay bar (that's a MUST with any wax system, it's killer), and then Zaino washed and waxed the hole truck except the tailgate. On my tailgate I did half with Zaino and half with Liquid Glass. I asked 5 people ranging from a couple of friends, my wife, and a few people I saw in a parking lot to tell me which side of my tailgate looked the best. All 5 people picked the Liquid Glass side. So no more Zaino for me.

I use a good sealer glaze for the base coat and then topcoat with Mother's Pure Carnuba. It has better durability than any other wax I've tried, and I've tried them all.

I like Zaino, but don't like the fact that you have to order it. I like to have options and once you use the Zaino system you're pretty much bound to it unless you decide to permanently switch.

As for the scratches, use high-quality microfiber towels on your vehicle. They reduce the chance of scratching the clear coat 10X, and produce a better, dsut-free shine than regular cotton towels. I swear by them. With microfiber - you get what you pay for - keep that in mind if you go shopping for them.

For the spider-web scratches you'll get (it's inevitable) Mother's and other companies make excellent products for minimizing the appearance. The Mother's Sealer Glaze I use does a great job.

I don't use a buffer. Hand polishing takes more time, gives me more time to look at the condition of my vehicle and keeps me in better touch with the problem areas - nicks, dings etc. Besides, I'm always afraid I'll smoke the paint.
