Tire Pressure for 2500HD Quad 4x4
My tires are E rated. I just bought the truck last week. Door jam indicates 60 psi for the front axle and 70 for the rear. Is this normal for the 2500s? Seems really high. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.
Nope, not high at all for a 3/4 ton truck with "E" rated tires. As a rule, I don't pay too much attention to the door jam though. The door jam assumes stock size and load range tires and except for the one diesel I had, I always go larger and higher load range than stock.
I tend to keep my tires at 75-80% of the maximum listed PSI on the side of the tire for day to day driving. I run my current "D" load, 35" Cepek FCIIs which are rated for 50 PSI max at 40 PSI even though my door jam says 35, which would be fine if I had a "C" range tire.
Most "E" tires are 80 PSI, so in your case, the 60-70 PSI rating would be about right on...

Go by the tire. If the tire says 80, and you tow/haul alot, go ahead and run 80. If you rarely haul anything, drop that down to about 65.
Mine call for 50 cold, and they sit about 35, maybe a little more, right now

Agree with scatpack 80 / 65 numbers on E rated tires. Definitely stick with E rated tires. If you tow heavy and run less than 80 psi especially on hot southern summer blacktop, your tires will flex as you drive, heat from the flexing and increase likelyhood of rupture.
