Default can not drop oil pan.

Hi all, im hopeing someone can shed some light on my situation.I have a 2006 3.7 , and I have removed all bolts and cross member , nothing seems to abstruct the oil pan , but it will not drop. Its as if something on the inside is holding it on.The manuel indicates that the engine be raised just enough for clearance for the pan to drop, but there is nothing in the way.I have googled this problem and there have been people who have removed the oil pan with out raiseing the engine , but no details are given.Anybody done this before, with or with out raiseing the engine?Or does anyone know why you have to raise the engine , to remove the pan , when nothing is obstructing it in the first place.Dont want to buy a engine hoist , if i dont really need it.Thanks.

When I took my 4.7 apart, I had to pry the pan away from the gasket as it was really stuck on there. Just be careful not to damage the gasket, it is bolted on.

Thanks for the reply. All bolts are off and I did pry the pan off , as it is hanging about 1/4 inch all around , but something inside is keeping it from dropping. Are you saying that the gasket is bolted to the engine on the inside and you have to pry the pan apart from the gasket? Thanks

Exactly. From memory, the pickup tube and gasket are bolted on the inside. I can't say for sure that's how your 3.7 is, but probably so. Grab a service manual for your year here: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen...-download.html

The dealer service manuals are pretty sweet

Copied directly from the Service Manual

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Install engine support fixture special tool # 8534.
Do not raise engine at this time.
3. Loosen both left and right side engine mount
through bolts. Do not remove bolts.
4. Remove the structural dust cover, if equipped.
5. Drain engine oil.
6. Remove the front crossmember (Refer to 13 -
FRAME & BUMPERS/FRAME/FRONT CROSSMEMBER
- REMOVAL).
CAUTION: Only raise the engine enough to provide
clearance for oil pan removal. Check for
proper clearance at fan shroud to fan and cowl to
intake manifold.
7. Raise engine using special tool 8534 to provide
clearance to remove oil pan.
NOTE: Do not pry on oil pan or oil pan gasket.
Gasket is integral to engine windage tray and does
not come out with oil pan.
8. Remove the oil pan mounting bolts and oil pan (1).
9. Unbolt oil pump pickup tube and remove tube.
10. Inspect the integral windage tray and gasket (2)
and replace as needed.

Sounds like the gasket may be stuck to the oil pan and the widage tray only drops 1/4". Maybe you ned to pry the gasket off the oil pan so to seperate the pan from the windage tray?
