Default Help buying new Hemi Maybe

Alright guys need a quick answer. I have '97 ram 1500 that was a great truck. I'm thinking of trading to a 2500 Hemi. Other than the obvious engine diffence. What is the main
difference in the 1500 and 2500. Also, what rear axel should I get(is 3.92 the best).

Any thought on would be great

Chris

I'm sure the 2500 dudes who actually know specifics will chime in, but looking at the DC truck brochure I noted an interesting published difference, i.e. horsepower for the 1500 and 2500 hemis--345@5400rmps vs. 330@4800rpms, respectively. The torque is listed as identical. My experience suggests the reason for this minor difference is most likely exhaust systems.

This is about the only specific difference the brochure notes, but of course there are apparently many others, such as differential, etc. others will tell you about.

Good luck.

2500 has the larger axels, stiffer frame and stiffer leaf springs as compared to the 1500.

dont quote me on this but I think the 2500 gasser comes with either the 3.73 or 4.10 gearing option.

Yes Drew is right heavy duty axels, stiffer frame, more leaf springs for more hauling capacity. Also a big advantage is solid axels both front and rear which means much more reliable and cheapto lift higher so even if you leave it stock 35 inch tires will fit easily. On the downfall the 2500's weigh more which means less fuel mileage and with stiffer springs comes a harsher ride.Personally I love my Hemi but if I was going to buy a 2500 I would go with the Cummins Turbo Deisel! Better fuel mileage, and goes as fast as a Hemi, well almost. And can be upgraded easily to blow the doors off the Hemi, I mean the Cummins has more powerful mods available for less money than the Hemi!!!! I hope I have helped you make a decision.
