Default 04 Ram Tranny problems Help Please!

I have an 04 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.7 and an automatic trans with 46,000 on it. Truck has always worked flawlessly with the exception of an issue with a bad gas cap. Last week I drove the truck about 30 miles to work and back with no issues. I then took it hunting and drove about half a mile through a pasture behind my house. The next morning when I left for work I only had first and second gear. The truck would rev to about 4,000 rpm in second and then shift to neutral. I didnt have access to a scan tool at the time but did crawl under the truck and found that the pressure governor transducer was broken off. (hit a stick coming out of the pasture the night before not sure if it broke then or was previously cracked and finally broke off) I picked up a new sensor and installed it along with a new gas cap because my check engine light had already been on due to that code. After installing the sensor I unhooked the battery to clear the codes, hooked it back up and took it for a spin. Still had the same problem, 1st and 2nd gear then nothing. Check engine light came back on so I went back and pulled the codes. They were p0700, P0733, P0734. So it is showing inconsistent gear ratios for 3rd and 4th gear. Wondering if anyone can provide some insight? Does the TCM need to be reprogrammed after replacing the sensor? Am i stuck in some sort of limp mode? Or did I smoke the clutches in the Tranny? Just seems weird that the truck was fine when I parked it the night before and the next morning I'm suddenly missing gears.

Welcome to DF
The side plate on the valve body may have snap off the screw heads. That will cause the problem you having. I would remove the transmission pan and inspect the valve body side plate.

I will pull the pan tomorrow night and take a look. Talked to a couple mechanics around here but nobody seems to have much for ideas. I will take any ideas or help I can get.

ok, dropped the pan this afternoon. valve body side plate is intact so thats not the issue. also, I didnt find any shavings or debris in the pan like I would assume I would if I had smoked the clutches for 3rd and 4th. Just the normal amount of sludge on the magnet in the pan, Anybody got any other ideas for me? Thinking if I cant come up with anything in the next day or two its gonna have to go to the shop.

Then the problem maybe an internal.
Symptom:
P0733-GEAR RATIO ERROR IN 3RD
When Monitored and Set Condition:
P0733-GEAR RATIO ERROR IN 3RD
When Monitored: The transmission gear ratio is monitored continuously while the
transmission is in gear.
Set Condition: If the ratio of the Input RPM to the Output RPM does not match the
current gear ratio. This DTC can take up to five minutes of problem identification before
illuminating the MIL.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
RELATED DTC’S PRESENT
RELATED PRESSURE SWITCH DTC’S PRESENT
INTERNAL TRANSMISSION
TRANSMISSION SOLENOID/TRS ASSEMBLY
INTERMITTENT GEAR RATIO ERRORS
TEST ACTION APPLICABILITY
1 NOTE: Low fluid level can be the cause of many transmission problems. If
the fluid level is low locate and repair the leak then check and adjust the
fluid level per the service information.
NOTE: Always perform diagnostics with a fully charged battery to avoid
false symptoms.
With the DRBIIIt, read the engine DTC’s. Check and repair all Engine DTC’s prior
to performing Transmission symptom diagnostics.
With the DRBIIIt, read Transmission DTC’s. Record all DTC’s and 1 Trip Failures.
NOTE: Diagnose 1 Trip Failures as a fully matured DTC.
Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors.
Repair as necessary.
Perform the Shift Lever Position Test. If the test does not pass, refer to Symptom test
for P0706 Check Shifter Signal.
For Gear Ratio DTC’s, check and record all CVI’s.
Most DTC’s set on start up but some must be set by driving the vehicle to ensure that
all diagnostic monitors have run.
NOTE: Verify flash level of Powertrain Controller. Some problems are
corrected by software upgrades to the Transmission and Engine Systems.
NOTE: Due to the integration of the Powertrain and Transmission control
modules - if a controller flash is performed it is necessary to perform Quick
Learn and the Drive Learn procedures. Failure to do so may result in shift
quality complaints.
NOTE: Check for applicable TSB’s that may apply.
Perform this procedure prior to Symptom diagnosis.
