EGR Valve issues
I wanted to give a brief write up on some problems I have been having in an effort to help anyone that may be experiencing what I have. I have a 2004 Ram 1500 4x4 5.7 Hemi. I have had it about 6 months and from day 1 I have experienced random stalling, no codes, but the ETC light would flash of and on very randomly. I have a warranty and have had it at the dealor a few times. Everytime they tried to place blame on my brute force intake causing erratic airflow to the engine in which it was not designed for. Even trying to explain to them that with the Hemi Hat it was the same but they always came back to the CAI. The second time they had it for 2 days and said they did notice a stalling problem but could not determine the cause, and told me that problem is most likely caused by a PCV valve not functioning properly. My truck has 65,000 on it and my gut was telling me it was the EGR valve from some prior vehicles but they always kicked a CEL and this one never did at any time so it was confusing to me. I remember reading a post from Hammer saying around 60k no matter what get the EGR changed.
The dealer argued and said that no aftermarket EGR valve would work and even if it was changed I would have to have my truck flashed for some reason. In pure disgust I went to Advanced Auto and picked up a new EGR valve and decided to replace it on my own. I found upon removing my old one that it didnt have the 2 gaskets that my new on did and there was alot of black buildup that fell out of it from the bottom. As soon as I started it the difference was very noticable. It runs very smooth and I no longer have any lights coming on and off on my dash.
Its very unfortunate that the dealer could not determine my problem for whatever the reason, but I want to thank everyone who contributes to the forum for giving people a place to go when it doesnt look like there is much help to be had. I hope this information helps someone with their problem. Have a good morning.

I had a bad EGR valve last year, I think it was. I didn't have any stalling, but definite lack of power and change in "attitude" from the truck. That was probably around 45,000 miles. The dealership wanted $400 to change it. Had it done by my local guy for much less. No codes or lights or anything. He has/had a 3rd Gen Ram, himself, so he knows what he was looking at. I wish I still lived there. I would volunteer to work at his little shop in return for his auto skills knowledge with these trucks!
