Default DIY oil change need advice asap!

So I'm trying to change my oil right now but I can't get the damn drain plug to come off. I've blasted it with WD40 like 3 times already. I need help on how to get this off please!

Yeah, sometimes they get pretty tight. It depends where you go, but some of the drive thru oil changes places screw them on to damn tight! When I started to do my own oil changes, mine was so tight that the metal around the plug was twisting as I was trying to get the plug off!! When you have the wrench on the plug, try carefully to tap the wrench with a hammer to loosen it. That's what I did, and eventually let go. Just watch your fingers!

Yep, tap it a few times and it should let go. Too many places over torque the damn thing. It should be hand tight then a half turn to snug it up...

Yea my thumb took the brunt of this learning experience. I ended up taking it to a shop and they did the change for 15 dollars. But next time I'll def use the hammer. I love the idea of doing an oil change for 30 bucks but this time it didn't go over so well.

Here is a simple tip. Make sure the truck was at operating tempature when you go to change the oil. I have changed my oil a dozen times and NEVER had any issue getting the plug out. It was always not long after i come back from the auto parts store and the truck is still warm. One day i bought the oil the night before and then decided to change the oil in the morning. The truck was cold and i could not get the drain plug out. It would not budge. I tried everything and was almost stripping the head on the drain plug. I never overtighten things, so it could not be that. So i started the truck and took a ride to go get a coffee, then came came home. Went back under the truck and the plug came out easily. It was because the pan had warmed up. Simple solution.

I dont know how many oil pans iv replaced back when i worked on cars because of drive though oil shops over torquing and stripping them...if you replace the plug or gasket like your supposed to and snug it up it wont leak,

Yea for next time I'm hoping I can get it myself. Would a torque wrench work maybe? Just for getting it off, not back on
