Default Tires for 17" Rims

I have a set of 20" Chrome Rims and tires that I bought along with the stock 17's that came with my truck. I want at least 33" All Terrains but refuse to pay the price all the tire manufacturers want for the 20" Rims. Will 33/12.50/17's fit on the stock 17" rims? I believe the rims are 8" wide. Most manufacturers i've seen suggest a minimum rim diameter of 8.5". If so how will my tires wear? I'm thinking of selling the 20's and staying with the 17's.

I think 33's are too big for those 17 inch rims.

I'm pretty sure that 33x12.50x17 is the same as 305/70/17 which WILL fit without any problems. I have 305's on my truck so I am speaking from experience. I have not lifted my truck, or cranked torsion bars, or anything. The manufacturer of my tire says it is 33' tall.

If the wheels are 8" wide ... should fit. Might pull the sidewalls in a little and bubble the tread out a tad but it should be within the manufacturers suggessted rim width. I'd check the tire manufacturers website for rim specs. Going outside those specs can possibly void any road hazard warranty you get...

That said ... I'm running 285/70r17 BFG ATs (32.8"). I have a 2" leveling kit on it now but had no problems with the tires before I had the kit.

I found a set of Nitto All Terrain tires with the size 295/70/17. That equates to 33.3" tall and 11.6" wide, which is slightly narrower then the 33/12.50/17's. I shouldn't have any problems with them I assume?

Well I know this post is really old, but mpd2436 if you are still around did you ever buy those 295/70/17 Nitto tires? Those are the exact tires I am looking to put on my stock 17inch rims and I was just wondering how they fit on your truck, thanks.

Yes I bought them but installed them on a set of MT rims. I couldn't be happier with the tires. I like the Nittos better then my old BFG All Terains. They were alot cheaper also.

By the way they will fit on the stock rims without any problems. There not as wide as a standard 33x12.50x17. Mine measure 11.50 wide.
