Default 2003 Ram 1500 - intrument cluster lights

G'Day out there to all you Rammers...!

I have my truck over here in Eastern Europe with me, and getting parts can be pretty complicated sometimes.

Lately I've notices that sections of the instrument cluster seem to have become much dimmer so I've been thinking that bulbs simply need to be changed. But a Dodge service guy told my Dad (in Rhode Island) that this truck does not have bulbs.

Whaaat???....

Anyone out there had this problem before? Any ideas? Thanks for any tips, fellas.

I have a dark spot on the top corner of my tach. I have heard people say that they are LEDS soldered to the cluster. So its not an easy job, but i dont know if thats true. I need to pull mine, but i havent had the time.

Soldered, eh? That makes sense then. Guess I'll have to take it to one of the Dodge dealers and service stations that are here (it'll probably cost a fortune though...) No Rams sold this far away from home; only the new Durangos and some of the cars. Thanks for the help! Cheers

Although I have not opened mine up, I'm pretty sure they are just regular mini incandescant bulbs. There are a few threads about how people have easily switched them out to LED bulbs to change the color but I'm pretty sure even then they have used plug and play LEDs, with no soldering. One of the sponsored website advertisers (super bright LED, I think) has a look up tool on their site to figure out what size LED bulbs will work, but I don't know about the stock part # bulbs

Thanks Caseys-Ram. Helpful information for me. I think that I'll just have the cluster pulled out and we'll see what we find. Thanks again!

I noticed that I have one out, too.

From the '03 Service Manual, section 8J - Instrument Cluster:

"CLUSTER BULB
This procedure applies to each of the incandescent
cluster illumination lamp bulb and bulb holder units."

From the '03 parts list:

P/N - 04827989AA
I could not find any of these parts for sale on a web search.

however, it looks like that part number has been superseded by
P/N - 4839738AA
There are a couple of sites on a web search that have this part for sale for about $1 each.
