Unfortunetly if you are going to have autostart and your vehicle uses the rfid system you have to have that chip and bypass. I found this out the hard way. I assumed my vehicle was not a chipped key and after doing the install figured out it was when it would not stay running lol.

No key is required in proper bypass modules. They provide the RFID signal via a wire, on demand when the remote starter goes through it's sequence. The bypass module is added to the truck as a legit key, but is only active during remote start-sequences.

The bypass modules with the keys in them may work the same way, but it concerns me as that could again be used, with a screwdriver/hammer to start the truck and operate it. I know my system cannot be used that way as there is no key to use as such.

compustar bypass modules go though the can high and low wires and give the skim module the proper signal without using a second key. when a second key is used they wrap a wire around the skim module. for the most part it works fine but in cold weather they can act up and not work. for 70 dollars they should have installed a ADS AL CA module this controls power door locks ,data mux a lot cleaner install and more reliable. best of all you don't need to lose a key or get another programed

I agree that they did not use the proper bypass module. I'm sure there are ones that don't require a key left in the module, but they probably used a generic universal one....which of course will need the key.

I verified that the truck will not start with a non-chipped key. Using the non-chipped key the truck turns over, but will not start. Also remote starting the truck and then inserting the non-chipped key doesn't work either, as soon as I pressed the brake pedal, the truck shut off.

So I'm guessing the only way they are stealing that truck is if they found the module under the dash and opened it up to get the key out.

They gave me back the 70 I spent on the module and tinted my front two windows for free. Not completely happy but it'll do.

That is what happened with my last vehicle I had one installed in. anything under 20 deg and it had to be started Via Remtoe start and wouldn't start with Key. Pain in the *** when you live in ND or the temps get low.

Any bypass module is not secure from theft. There are only a few company's that make them and if your remote starter can tell it to give the truck the proper transponder signal to start so can any one that knows remote car starters. It would take changing the state of one wire to module to get valid start. FYI I personally like idata products for bypassing.
