Default Clank clank clank!

O.k.

I'm trying to figure out where this noise is coming from.
1. only happens in 4wd.
2. seems to occur on driver side of vehicle.
3. left/right front driveshafts have equal(very little) play.
4. left/right front driveshafts seem to have intact cv joint boots.
5. U-joint looks like a U-joint....(what do they look like when bad?)
6. noise is rythmic, increasing with speed.
7. noise is louder while accelerating.

Any thoughts as to how to troubleshoot this issue or help in narrowing down issue?

I'm thinking either u-joint or transfer case chain, however it very definately feels like it's on the left side of vehicle..... Can the front halfshaft be bad without visable defect?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

Grab hold of the u joints and check for any play or movement in them. If there is movement in them go ahead and replace them.

Got under there Today, the sound is coming from inside the front diff.

Looks like it'll have to go to the stealership, I can do a few things, but I ain't digging in there.

Thanks for your help.
