Default Fogs are out

I did the jumper mod a couple of years ago so that my fogs stay on with my brights. Noticed this morning that both fogs arent coming on at all. Fuse the most likely issue? Havent tested for power at the sockets yet.

Yep, I would say so either that or the relay is fried. One will cost you about a quarter to fix, the other about four bucks...

Thanks Hammer. I assume the relay is what I jumpered to/from under the hood? Checking a fuse should be obvious but is there any easy way to test the relay with my multi-meter?

yeah, but it's a PIA unless someone chimes in with a better way than how I know to do it. It's basically a two step process and you need a multimeter, even one of the cheapy Radio Shack ones is fine.

Put the meter in Ohms mode and touch the leads to pins 85 & 86, you should get a reading between 50 and 120 Ohms depending on the relay. If you get infinite (open) or a crazy high reading like 600+ then the relay is burnt open and is bad.

If it passes this test, it still could be bad and you need to put 12v of power to pin 86 and ground pin 85. You should hear a "click". Now set your meter for continuity and lay one lead from the meter to pin 30 and the other to pin 87 (it doesn't matter which to which). If the relay is good it'll show continuity (usually a beep on the multimeter).

Personally, I just keep a spare relay on hand and swap it out, if the lights start working I toss the relay I pulled. If they don't I can pretty much assume the original relay was good and have to keep troubleshooting...

Yeh, Hammer, I hear ya. I have a meter but it is a cheapo - bought it for keeping an eye on my golf cart batteries. But for $5, I'll check the fuse and just replace the relay if the fuse looks good. If that doesn't do the trick, I'll have to troubleshoot further.

I believe the other relays are the same, so you should be able to take one of those and switch it to see if it takes care of your problem. If it does, then you know you have a bad relay.

I thought I had an issue awhile back , just turned out that both burned out at about the same time. Check the bulbs first.

I just figure "what are the odds?" on both bulbs at same time. But will check them.

Well fuse is good, relay is good, bulbs are good. Have a short in the wiring somehow. As I was wiggling the wires around to test power to the socket, I heard a crackle and the bulb lit up for a second. So, guess I need to find the bad spot and do some splicing.

check the underside of the fuse/relay box, pretty common that it starts to corrode under there...
