I keep getting a malfunction indicator light when the gas tank gets half full. When I check the code it comes up as P0441. I reset the light and code but it returns once the tank gets half full again. Since I live in a state that does not check emission control, is this something that I need to be concerned with? Will any permanent engine damage occur if I ignore this particular code?

Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

 

What year is your truck? I have heard that '03 and earlier have a maunfacturer of the gas cap used incorrectly finished metal diaphragms that permitted premature corrosion.. You can read it here
