Default 4x4 shifter

My linkage fell off so i cannot engage in 4x4 .if i put linkage back on it works, but what type of clip/washer/pin hold the linkage to the shifter assembly??? I was thinking a washer and e-clip or is a grommet?

Also, I don't know if I mentioned it the thread, but after picking up two new grommets and repairing the linkage, I connected a length of 130# test PowerPro fishing line to the linkage arm and the frame so in case the grommets failed again, the linkage wouldn't fall off and get lost. I'm gonna replace it with a small length of chain at some point, just ain't got around to it yet...

Sadly its a rubber grommet that will wear out. As far as I know, the grommets are $11.00 a piece. If you shop around, you might be able to find them for less. When I discovered that my linkage was missing at oil change time, the grommets & linkage were missing. Instead of sticking with something that will most likely fail again, I went a different route. The link I'm including is to the post on made for my fix.

i had the same problem, put a 3/8 nut in the shifter holes and then a flat washer and a small r-key in the groves on the linkage. has a little rattle but flowmasters take away that problem

Yeah, $11 is list price on them which is a bit high for a lousy rubber grommet, but at least my local dealer sold them to me for $8 a piece.

Your solution looks good and I had placed a copy in the FAQ section for anybody who wanted to fix the issue without going with the factory grommets...
