Default driver's side front differential trouble.

Hey, three night ago the windimg noise, which I thought was my hub assy became so bad I could no longer ignore it. Turns out the driver's side drive axle was coming off the output shaft on the front differential. Needless to say the splines are spanked on both the axle and the output shaft coming out of the front case. I ordered a new axle, but searching under driver's side output shaft I can't fint the splined shaft I need any where. Any advice on where to look or what it's called? Thanks!

Junkyard or dealer. I believe it is called the inner axle shaft. I just bought one for the right side, but ended up not needing it. Too bad or I could sell you that one.
Edit: Part catalog calls it an Intermediate Shaft. Using online junkyard searches, you'll look for a front axle, then specify inner and the side. I believe the part # is 52069887AB if you want to order at that site or get at dealer.

Probably should put a new axle seal in there while you're at it. You might want to edit your vehicle information in your profile so everyone knows what you are driving. Then we can give a better idea of the part #, etc. You can also put it in your signature.

Just be aware, that a core charge is dependant on if it's rebuildable. If your splines are bad, they may not refund you the core charge. Just depends on their policy...

Thanks for the info on the core charge. I was wondering what they would do with it because the splines are spanked. I wonder if napa will give me the core on the output shaft on the front diff. that one was $85!

*OK, found a site that might have what you need. http://www.riversidegear.com/4x4-fro...put-shaft.html
Now, the 2002 I'm not sure is the same as the 2001 even though you have a 5.9L??? It surely wont fit if 2002 has IFS. I'd call and ask to be sure. The above link is for 1994-2001 so dont buy the wrong year for your truck unless you know it'll fit.

I wouldnt tear apart your truck until you have what you need. You could always run with no shaft if you had to since it's upfront. I'd use a sawsall and cut the shaft in two pieces so you can just slide it right out without much disassembly...haha It's worth the loss of a small core charge to me...not sure about you? Ofcourse you'll have to open things up to get the new one installed...

Thanks buddy! That site is the only place I have seen that has even just a picture of that part. Napa can't get it and Chrysler parts direct offers every part on the diagram except that one.
Also when the drive axle S.T.B. I took it off the hard way and two days later it snowed...of coarse. I'm gonna call the site you gave me tommorow and see if they have the shaft for my 02'. I appreciate you looking for me because I have had no luck...Thanks again buddy!!

Well I finally found the damn thing. It's called an "intermediate" shaft( #7 on the diagram). I got it on ebay new for $45.00 and went to Napa and got the seal, bearing, and all Amsoil to replace the fluid in my front diff and transfer case. I'll post my results as soon as the axle comes in.

P.S. 2-wheel drive is f'ng pointless!!!!
