Default 02 1500 4.7L manual tranny wont shift into any gear

Ive been searching for awhile now and cant seem to come up with much information. Since i bought the truck, when i have the clutch in and shifter in gear you can kinda hear a noise.. not sure how to describe it. Anyway, now the truck will not shift into any gear while it is running. will shift fine when its not. I can turn off the truck, put it in gear, start the truck and it will drive fine but ill be lucky if i get it into the next gear.
After work today i am going to change the fluid and bleed the clutch. Hope that works. I am new to working on this truck so any advice would be much appreciated. This is my work truck and need it back on the road asap.

Thanks

How does the clutch feel? Real light like it isnt grabbing anything indicates air. When was the last time you changed or checked the fluid?

I asked about the fluid because my uncle has an 04 that would not go into 1st gear while the truck was sitting still, it had to be rolling to go into 1st, and when you would let your foot off the clutch you also had to hold your hand on the shifter as it would pop back out. It would do this in 1st and 3rd. He had the clutch changed and figured it was the transmission going and just drove it like that. A couple days ago we decided to check the fluid and it was bone dry. 2 quarts and a couple splashes of Pennzoil Synchromesh and it drives like it should, except for a slight grind when shifting into 3rd gear.

Just before we checked the fluid it had gotten to the point of not wanting to shift into 2nd at all, and same with 3rd.

Clutch seemed fine today for the first few minutes driving it. Then it started to get really hard to get it into each gear. Also the fluid looked new and was full. The pedal feels normal. I can hear a slight rattle when i push the clutch in. I'm thinking slave but is there any way to check to see if thats the problem?

Other then bleeding the slave I know of no other way to check it besides obvious leaks. That rattle tells me that the throwout bearing is involved in some way. Might want to think about doing a clutch job on it. If I am not mistaken the slave lives in the transmission, so if your going to go through the trouble of pulling it, you might as well change everything in there.
