I dunno why it's taking so long for you fan to kick on, mine turns on at about 178* like clockwork and yeah, I've pulled 7000+ lbs. of tractor on a big trailer and the efan consistently keeps it cooler than the clutch fan did...

Same here, more or less. I have mine set at ~210 with a 203 'stat. Even pulling this through traffic, it did its job:

Bumping this one back up...

Was searching thru the forums with tools. To try and find Normal operating temperatures.

Well I JUST installed the Flex a lite 183 model. Awesome unit, to wiring stressed me out something fierce until I got it done, and then looked back at how simple it was. So now..

I also have a Vivid Linq For watching the temperatures. So With the SC. I Have the engine running at about 204 F before fan starts running at 60%. Then another 10 F kicks to 100%. Now looking at Hammers posts. Your running at 175?? Im assuming Im running way way to high, But my idiot truck gauge doesnt seem to have changed at all.

I did toy around with the Variable speed control on the fan. Im assuming the first post in reply to this will be that I am way to high. And im an idiot. Some insight would be great.

Thanks

So then trying to run the fan at a slightly lower temp is just folley, due to the therm being a 200f. So this temperature is fine for the engine? Maybe ill dial it back 10F and see if I can hold it there while on the road. While driving in the city. the fan didnt even run. But at stop lights it was kicking in.

what makes me nervous is that I piggy backed it off the Sunroof, 15 amp fuse, in engine bay. Thinking it was smart. BUT...... even with key off, and all doors closed the sunroof wont operate, but the fan still runs. Makes me think will the fan even drain my battery, if the engine got so freaking hot. then turned it off. I sat once and it ran on and off for 5 mins, while the last amounts of rad fluid rise and sank.

Oh and Vivid was showing a 204f, just before shut off.

opinions?

are you using a probe through the radiator?

if so, one of those little IR temp guns can be a valuable tool to help you...

simply run the truck to temp, allow it to idle, shoot the IR to the radiator and figure out where the magic temp is you're looking for based on 'stat you're using..

it should be hotter on the bottom of the rad than it is on the top.. you'll want to find within a few degrees of your stat where to insert the probe..

if you've got it too high on the radiator, chances are it's simply not reaching temperature there enough to toggle the switch... and if it does, it's when the truck is near overheating..

Well after toying around some more with the VSC. It seems that, with the stock therm in. It doesnt even matter where i put the High/low temp settings on fan. The truck always runs, 203 - 204.8f. Never seen it get higher then that unless I gunned it off the light, and fan didnt catch it in time. Lowest ive seen was 201 ( after warm up period)

My biggest beef is that the fan runs even when the ignitions off, and keys out. Even with the VSC piggy backing off, an igniton hot fuse. it still wants to run. That i cannont explain. I guess the real answer there is to get the optional manual off switch
