'05 RAM 1500 4.7L Spark Plugs
I'm about to get the 60,000 mile tune up on my 2005 RAM 1500 4x4 with the 4.7L V8. At the 30,000 tune up, I just put Champions back in because I was always told that Champion was the best. After talking to some other mechanics, I'd like to get away from the recommended stock Champions. So, what's a good spark plug for the 4.7L?
I've heard to stay away from platinum plugs, is this true?
What about the iridium?
I know Autolite are supposed to be pretty good and what about NGK?
Any help/advice you guys have is greatly appreciated.

NGK V-POWER in my 4.7. From everything I have read, don't use platinum or iridium plugs due to the coil packs on these. The copper core plugs don't last as long but from my experience with NGK plugs you will get a few more hp with them. I had a 95 Camaro Z28 and took it to the dyno with NGK and Platinum plugs and had 5 hp increase with the copper NGK.
Ok, thanks. I had read somewhere that you weren't supposed to use platinum and iridium plugs with this motor because of the coils, but I can't seem to find those threads anymore. Now I have to figure out if I want to go NGK or Autolite. I use NGK's in my high performance motors so I know their quality and I see them in a lot of high performance applications.

Also, if you changed your plugs, the top plugs have a different gap than the bottom ones do and they also have different maintenance intervals. If you have rliability issue's, you may not have properly gappd them.
In the end, fancy plugs cost you more because they are 4x's the cost of coppers each.
He stated that they tend to foul easily and then they mis-fire a lot. I was working on an old tractor and I was putting new plugs and other ignition parts in it. We flooded it a little when we went to start it and it was mis-firing. So I was told to just change the spark plugs and put something other than champion in. I did and the motor was running like it should have.
