Torque Management Modification
I have a 04 2500 fwd hemi with the 545rfe transmission. Truck has 68000k on it and is in great shape. I recently changed plugs, wires, pcv, tranny fluid and filters. The truck has a soft 1-2 up shift. I have read about the torque modification procedure which involves cuting a wire from tcm to pcm (green and yellow wire?) Can I do this mod with my truck? Just looking to firm up that shift. Thanks
Nope, because of the way the PCM operates this only works on the '03 Hemi. You would need a programmer (Strongly suggest a Superchips for an '04 PCM) to cut torque management...
That sucks, so no programmer that fix these sorry spongy tranny's? guess ill think about cliping that wire then. Isnt there some type of upgraded valvebody that actually makes the tranny shift better, quicker and firmer?
Trace the wire back to the large multi-plug on the back of the firewall.
Remove the large plug, by unbolting the small 8mm bolt I think it is from memory.
You can then open up the plug and using a very small watch makers screwdriver, slide the driver down the side of the pin to release the locking tags on it. The wire then pulls out from the back of the plug easily.
If you do it this way, any warranty you may have will be OK as you can always replace the wire back into the plug and no one will be the wiser.
I've had this done to my 03 for over 4 years now and although it doesn't solve the lazy sloppy way in which our auto-boxes usually work.....on WOT on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts....it's a whole different ballgame

Al.
Programmers for the 03 do support the TM modification but since I already had the wire removed I can't tell you how close it gets. Go ahead and remove the wire from the harness -- it's easy -- but you'll never want to put it back
