If they are the halo style aftermarket headlights it is a very common problem. The only way to get good light output on those assemblies is to use an hid kit. For the money you have to spend on a quality hid set, you might be better off trying to sell your current lights and buying an oem set. Sorry to hear your new lights suck.

My uncle bought halos for his truck and noticed the same thing. they are 85% better. The halos use a weenie H1 bulb that doesn't generate much light at all.

HID's are not meant for halogen projector lamps. They can even be worse in some instances as far as light output where the light needs to be. Since HID bulbs are longer than the halogens made for the projector lens, they cause lots of strayed light to illuminate areas you dont need.
If you already purchased the lights and are trying anything to get better output, then thats one thing but to buy them with intentions of having great ouput, you'll be sadly mistaken to find out that's not the case.

That "weenie" H1 bulb still shoots out 1400Lumens of light. The standard 9006 bulb only puts out 1000Lumens which is what Chrysler uses for most of their cars. Now, going from the H13(1100Lumens for low and 1700 for high ) you'll notice a small difference, but to say the H1 sucks is not true. It's better than most other car bulbs. It's the Projectors that suck!

Here are some bulb types, and their comparative relative output.

Since you said you only paid $40/ea for the housings, we're all assuming you bought cheap projector headlights, but--while it may be a safe assumption--you still haven't told us what type of headlights they are. Can you post some pics, or a link to the item where they were purchased? Might be easier to help you if we know exactly what you're dealing with.

Link is bad. ---> http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk...gs+Best+Seller
Those are Blacked out stock type headlights and will get you better ouput than cheap projectors ever will.
I also corrected my post above, that the H13 output of 1100lumens as compared to H1 which is 1400-1550 Lumens. So, H1 bulbs put out half again as much light as stock bulbs. Shows how crappy halogen projectors actually are.
Sorry OP, not tryin to burst any bubbles...

Bent, that's the same Bulb chart i bookmarked a year ago and lost it when I changed computers...haha Thanks for it back. ;-)
