Knuckle/brake parts brain needed!
Knuckle/brake parts brain needed!
2004 SRT V10 15" brake disc, caliper, caliper support and hub machining dimensions are needed.
I am building from scratch a set of Dana 60s Frt and rear for a 300 HP jeep cj7 that runs in the Swiss Alps and German highways. I want to put the SRT 15" discs and calipers on 4x4 knuckles that fit up to the d60. I know from my research that it seems to match up to my choice of build except that I can not get any exact machining dimensions to help me confirm 100% the match up. So I have listed my build sheet here ,my ( what I know's and want's.) with the hope that one of you highly skilled experienced parts brains (compliment intended) can hep me make the needed connections and choices.
Thanks in advance to he who takes the time to work on the details with me!!!
My Build sheet for Dana 60 Front axel. to fit OEM track width of Cj7 narrow 52" flange to flange width.
I know D60s fit and has already been done according to jeep forums.
I have the full selection of parts available, oem, aftermarket and conversion kits, to choose from.
Piggy bank has decided that it is now or never to do a complete suspension, steering, axel , brakes , tires and wheels conversion on this 1980 jeep. Just for your insight I list right below what has alredy been built and driven. 10,000km.
-Modified Ford SVO 351w , true 300 Hp on rear wheels.
-NV4500 tranny bolted to 300 dana transfer case.
-33" Wrangler tires, will be changed to 315/40 R 26" LT V rated all season tires.
-Dana 20 8.75"ring gear 3.54:1 Rear Axel , Has now twisted the ring gear oval for the second time.
My Chioce of materials for my build;
-Ford reverse cut high pinion carrier housing using 3.125" tubes
-open or true locker 35 Spline carrier unit.
-dana 9.75" reverse cut ring gear 3.54:1 ratio
-35 spline inner axel selected by length or cut to length
-1350 spicer joints
-35 Spline outer stub axels
-Warn manual disengage HD internal 35 spline lock-outs
*-Dana old style 60 4x4 Wheel beaing hubs 5x5.5" (dodge SRT disc dimensions) avail. aftermarket to fit d60 King pin knuckles/spindles
*-Caliper brackets that fit the dodge SRT 2-piston calipers, 15" discs and kingpin dodge/chevy Knuckle (bolt on to Knuckle after bearing spindle,(not ford style)
* 6-bolt bearing Spindle matching to dodge/chevy knuckle and spzl. Dodge 5x5.5"rotor/hubs
*-SRT 15" disc
*-SRT 45mm daul piston front calipers joined to Vanco (dodge 2500) Hydroboost brake booster
*-Srt 36mm daul piston rear calipers, with oem Dodge park brake on dana 60 full floating axel.
-dodge 2500 Hydroboost cast iron housing master cylinder with Hydroboost unit.
-Yellow stuff Brake pads
-Dodge/chevy D60 king pin high steering steering knuckles
-Hd center tierod, with large dia. tie rod ends.
-Steering Stabilizer shock
-
(*) Mark the positions where I need technical dimensions, and or confirmation and specific part identification!
every bit of accurate information that can be supplied gets me a step further.
-Problem I have is matching up the SRT v10 brakes to a hub and knuckle assembly that fits up to dana 60s axel tubes
Parts listings list the following points;
2004 SRT V10 2-wd/4wd use same 15" disc 5bolt x 5.5"wheel stud spacing
2004 SRT V10 2-wd/4wd use same calipers for 15" disc
2004 SRT V10 2-wd/4wd use same Backing plates/dust shields as all 1500 rams.
2004 SRT V10 2-wd/4wd use same master cylinder piston size as Ram 2500 with oem hydroboost
What I know is that
-3rd generation 2004 SRT V10 2-wd/4wd is 4-bolt unit bearing hub assembly.,2 and 4 wheel drive being different construction but almost have to be same brake spacing dimensions. due to using same disc.
- CAD center axel disconnect (gas guzzler)oem axel is not recommended.
-Rack and pinion steering does not match up to a sprung center axel housing.
There are conversion units that make dodge 2500 (unit bearing hubs) into 8 bolt bearing spindles with dana 60 /spicer u-joint stub axels. 35 spline warn HD internal spline lock outs. I don't know if 5-bolt 1500 ram version is available will have to research and ask.Would be acceptable choice if it matched brakes, steering and axel knuckle match. but I do not see a complete match up being possible.
I want to presume that 2500 ball joint knuckles with matching axel tube ball joint C-ends were already built on dodge D60 axels. And therefore a possible option. but the Brake caliper mounts and positions are not same as SRT V10?? And steering tie rod connections etc.might start making things complicated. Things get unclear for me in this area of mix and match, not having any dimensions to go with.Correct me if I am wrong.
Finishing thoughts;
-Old style dodge/chevy d60 knuckles have lots of advantages, inexpensive with milled reinforced high steering mounts which helps the angle between the pitman arm and steering linkage.
-Old style dodge/chevy knuckles have seperate caliper mounting brackets , which would make it easier to mount SRT calipers to the knuckles or have one off brackets fabricated. But I need 100% accurate dimensions to finish the designing. caliper brackets Might even be availableoff the shelf???
- Old style dodge/chevy knuckles have bearing hubs available with dodge 5x5.5" wheel stud spacing and hd lock outs.
- Old style dodge/chevy knuckles on d60's do fit under a cj7, using the Ford reverse cut housing set off to the passenger side driveshaft of a dana 300. The high steering linkage is a full match up to the pitman arm of a jeep.
Best case scenario;
Some one can give 100% accurate mfk dimensions for parts listed below, or place to get these dimensions for all needed parts.
Some one can give confirmation with accurate parts nr.s (wishfull thinking) of a set of 15 " rotors or that the oem SRT discs that match up to the SRT 2-piston 45mm calipers, and full information about what mounting bracket dimensions are used to fit old syle dodge 60 knuckles.
2004 SRT V10 Specific dimensions needed ;
-Rotor/disc, heighth, offset, mounting surface thickness, pad surface thickness, middle hole diameter. Everything!
-Caliper, mounting points, offsets, etc.
-Caliper brackets , mounting points, offsets etc.
-Information about what knuckles were used on SRT V10, high performance brakes
-Information on SRT Brake caliper mounts, and cross matches
-dana 60 spindles and wheel bearing hubs
I know dodge mixed and matched to get this SRT set up, but I just do not know the accurate dimensions to compare nor the experience hands on to say this fits that.
I am a parts specialist, believe I know my stuff having done this much research up to now. But Some one specializing in dodge truck frt. ends can make the difference here.
I know that Dodge built the best f)(/& oem brakes into the 2004 SRT V10 beast, I want to make them even better with hydroboost and put them into a 300 Hp jeep that runs up against the finest what europe has to offer here in Switzerland.
Thanks in advance for taking the Time to get involved!!

Hemi Lonestar, Weedahoe,
Tanks for the replies and data links!
Weedahoe, your 325/45x24 do show me that my tire wheel combination will look good, Your's do seem to cut apart the competition. Bet it is difficult not to give gas in every curve on the road.
I have to finish downloading the tech info. my computer spit up and said it was full of data, so I have to make some space empty, and then try again.
I do have some confusion still. SRT's V10's are listed as 2wd, but my part searches always show up that the 15" discs (HD brake package?) show for 2wd and 4wd. No difference between 2 and 4 wd part nr. on the 15" disc.
Did they cast extra spindles for SRT,10's to get the extra distance for the 15" radius, or did they just add spacer brackets, moving the caliper further out then orig. 13 or 14 Spindles??
The rear's use caliper Mounting brackets to the axel that are spzl. to SRT 14", I presume they just move the calipers out another half inch.?? And are different 2 piston,
Second confusion, Brake calipers, Were Fronts single or 2-piston? had thought that my part searches listed these as 2 piston. They changed the brakes all over the place in between 2002 and 2005.
Aftermarket just list about everything fitting everything, True I presume until you take the stuff out of the box, and hold it in place. The 15" do catch my interest, only the ultra luxury 100,000$ RangeRovers and porsches seem to go this large. And expensive aftermarket alu. calipers do not take the pressue of the hydroboost.
Thanks again for the support
