Meguiar's NXT liquid wax with a random orbital buffer.

 

i agree nxt is a great wax. but first i would dawn wash to strip what ever crap the dealer put on there then i would follow up with show car glaze to put the oils back in the paint, then top with the nxt.

 

Today, there are many good waxes, but I too have gravitated to NXT and love it for the most part.

One caveat, though, believe what the NXT instructions say about NOT getting it on the black plastic (especially on the Ram). I got careless with the Ram the first time I waxed it since the other vehicles I use it on either don't have any black plastic or do not seem succeptible to NXT's effects.

NXT (and many other waxes) will turn the black plastic white and it can be a bear to get right again. On the advice of a pro detailer I've started using Maquiar's "Back to Black" to address my carelessness with the Ram. It seems to work pretty well and easily, dealing with the discoloration, but we'll see how permanent the fix is. Too early to tell.

All the best. I've owned several black vehicles. I love them when they are right, but I hate maintaining them, and would never expect to own another.

 

NXT is great for shine but horrible for longevity.

If it were me, I'd claybar the paint, then use a good sealer glaze to establish a good base coat. I use Mother's.

Next, I'd lay down a coat of NXT for a good shine.

Finally, I'd topcoat with Mother's Pure Carnuba to add depth and give longevity & protection.

I'd use high quality microfiber towels and leave the buffer on the shelf. That's just my style - I like to feel the surface of the vehicle and inspect for damage as I go - using a buffer removes the human touch from the process. It's just how I like to do things.

If you really want to go over the top you can use the ZAINO line of products, but they aren't for me. I like stuff I can get off the shelf - if I'm on the road and don't have my detailing gear with me I don't want to be tied to ZAINO and the mail order process.

I'll never own another black vehicle. The most overused phrase in a black vehicle owner's vocabulary is:

It looks great when it's clean.

 

I use Ibiz and it works very well.

 

I'd have to agree about avoiding the buffer. While a buffer can speed the waxing process, unless you're an expert with the thing you can actually put permanent swirl marks into the paint if applying too much pressure. This is especially true on new, black paint -- I know from personal experience.

Hand wax it.

 

True. I automatically assumed proper use. But you know what happens when you *** U ME. LOL

 

Please don't flame me, but I use this fancy Armor All wash n' wax combo deal I found at autozone. I wet the truck, squirt the soap gel on, wash with my handy brush on a stick, then rinse off and squirt this wax gel on and wipe dry. It does a very good job! The paint is super smooth and the water beads up nicely!

BTW I've found Turtle wax "tire wax" does a good job of taking the white wax overswipe off the black plastic, and makes it look good!

I know these aren't "premium" items, but because it is so simple, my truck gets waxed once a week, in the time it used to take just to wash it, I figure that that much waxing must be better than putting it off and putting it off and useing a "better" wax.
