my 4.7 motor its got 186500K is making noses like a "lifter" knock people are saying and some times it sounds like a diesel truck and then some days theres nothing, i'm the thrid owner of the truck and i'm pretty sure i'm the only one that has given it a oil change in its life so i'm thinking it really gummed up or something is broken inside, so i'm looking for some feed back thanks

 

if its a loud tick while running hot, internal issue. if its a tick during start up and clears up after it warms up, it could be the manifold gaskets, and or a possible broken manifold bolt...if your the only one that has changed its oil, i can only imagine what else hasnt been maintained, start and do it all...the right way...for the sake of your investment

 

@ 165K there likely is internal wear on certain parts. But its hard to identify parts needing to be repaired or replaced with the engine still in one piece.
