'08 5.7 smoking on start up
Well, I have a '08 Dodge 5.7 hemi with 52,000 on the clock. I get in it yesterday and I start it and get a cloud of grey smoke blowing in my veiw. My buddy works in a local Dodge dealer and works on Dodges. He said "Do an induction clean an injector clean service on it an it should stop that." Is there anything else I could do or should do at 52,000 miles. I do the normal stuff, keep good tires, brakes, clean filters, and use Mobil 1 when I should.
Injection cleaner is always a good thing to use but you could have an injector leaking down in the cylinder and causing a small puddle of fuel to exist and when it fires up it makes some smoke.
The other thing is bad valve guides leaking oil into the cylinder or bad oil rings on the pistons

Black smoke usually means too rich or blow-by (which basically is what 'Weed means). White smoke usually means water or coolant. But gray could kinda be either in a small amount. Could be just a bit of water in the gas (more common than you think since ethanol can actually attract water from the air). I wouldn't start jumping to conclusions yet, just put you in a bottle of injector cleaner or better yet a couple oz. of Star Tron and see what it does...
Well, I'm hoping it's nothing hard to fix being it's still pretty new. The trucks over it's 36,000 mile warranty unless I got an engine problem on the lifetime powertrain warranty but if they find I've tuned it that's out lol. I have the Diablo Trinity with a 87oct tune, tire change, and throttle response for some pulling help. I don't race the truck but occasionally I make sure people hear that hemi roar.
