Default Hard shifting with Edge Evolution Programmer

Whats up, Bought a 2007 Ram with a 5.7 Hemi a few weeks ago. Just added a K&N intake and the Edge Evolution Programmer this week. After adding the edge I noticed the tranny was shifting hard from 4-5 and seemed to be jumping between each other more at speeds from 45-55mph. I have the programmer set on the econ. setting right now. Didnt seem to have this problem until it was added. Didnt know if anyone has had this problem before or knew about it. All info would help...........

First thing I would try is setting the tune back to stock. Being a new vehicle to you, you might have not noticed the hard shifting. Anything you do to increase the power or modify the power band could highlight small issues. Unless you are sure of the maintanence history, I would service the tranny.

I've never been a big fan of the Edge, although since they don't support '04s I've never personally tried it. I know as recently as 2010 they still ONLY supported the '07 which led me to believe they basically gave up on Dodge gas engine support. Dunno if they have added other years yet or not, never really looked into it since.

Some guys with '07s swear by the thing and say they get the best gains with it over other tuners while I know some guys on here over the last couple of years have hated it and ditched it.

But yeah, I agree that if you believe the problem started with the tune, then go back to stock and see if it goes away. Maybe you can try to load their performance tune and see how that acts if you determine the 87 tune is the culprit.

I know that Superchips firms up the tranny lines a good bit and can every once in a while expose a problem with the transmission that would go undetected at stock levels...

Thanks again not sure if it was there before the tune or not. I did notice the tranny would shift alot from gears 5-6 at speeds 50-60 mph depending on how much grade I was on. I bought the truck used and never owned a Dodge before. My dad owns a 09 2500 cummins and has yet to see problems with it and of course I got Dodge fever and got rid of my 03 Durmax. Is there any kind of tranny problems that could cause this without the tune, maybe you guys know or have heard of any. None of the reviews I read on the Edge had anything about hard shifting.........

Uh, another diesel convert like me, LOL... I love my truck and it's never given me a hint of trouble and even though I don't do a single thing that requires a diesel anymore, I still miss owning a diesel.

But anyway, the 545rfe is a pretty damn stout transmission, best one Dodge ever put in a gasser truck, anyway. But you still gotta keep up with maintenance, so fresh fluids on schedule is a must. Being an '07 are you sure your issue isn't just that stupid MDS kicking in and out (personally I hate MDS and it was one reason I decided to mod the hell out of my truck rather than trade it for a newer 3rd Gen).

Superchips and Diablo tuners allow you to turn MDS off. Does the Edge? If so, you may first want to try to do that and see if the issue goes away. Although if your not sure if you had the issue before the tuner or not, it mustn't be very bad.

Again, there's a few things to try before just assuming it's the transmission. Ditch the tune for stock and see, ditch MDS if your tuner allows you to, try a different tune a couple of things that should help you isolate the problem...

Use only ATF+4 and I would use only oem filters. To many stories of improper filter seating. Good luck.
