Default Extended Service Contract

Hi all. I'm in the process of buying a new 05 Ram and had a few questions about the factory warranty and extended service contracts. What would be the benefit of purchasing a service contract at this time? Wouldn't the 3/36 bumper to bumper and the 7/70 powertrain warranty suffice for now? DC offers service contracts on new vehicles within 4 years or 48000 miles of the in service date. This is the route I'm leaning toward, but I want to make sure I'm not missing anything. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Is anything covered that isn't in the 3/36 or the 7/70 ? if nothing major. why bother.?Now if that were an 06 ,It's a different story.

As far as I can tell there's nothing special, so I'll probably pass on it for now. After the 3/36 expires, I might look at getting the service contract. If anyone else has any input though I'd appreciate it.

Just picked up an extended service contract for my 04 ram. I bought the 7/70 "Added Care" which adds pretty much every option my truck has, windows, locks, steering, 4x4, A/C in addition to the standard 7/70 powertrain warranty.

One thing I can say is, if you are contemplating buying a service contract...DO IT WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR!!! My contract only cost $800 and has a $100 deductible. After one year passes, I would have paid $1390 for the same contract. There is also the "Maximum Care" warranty which adds other power options which my truck doesn't have...plus the "Maximum Care" policy waives the deductible, if you return to the dealer you bought the truck from for the serve.

Don't wait til the 3/36 is up or you'll pay through the nose. I have an 02 Durango that I bought used that now has 30k miles on it, with warranty still in tact and they want over $1800 for the added care warranty.

Your standard 7/70 is powertrain only. Keep that in mind. You can go to Dodge.com and look at the DC Service contracts. One use of the contract could very well pay for the contract and then some.

Extended warranties are just like going to the casino. Occasionally, you win, but most of the time you loose.

Seems like I have always had something go out between 40k-80k miles, so I am a big fan of spending the $880 as it doesn't take much in the repair world to reach $880. Besides, at least the $880 now I can plan for....repairs are always needed at the most in-opportune time.

Only my opinion though.
